MoonDancer is an eclectic, professional jazz, swing, and rhythm & blues band led by vocalist/pianist Cathy DeWitt. Cathy has been compared vocally with Anita O’Day, Doris Day, and Diana Krall, and she has performed with Dave Frishberg, Rob Bargad, Bruce Forman, and Bobby Sanabria. Bassist David Ottenberg, a graduate with a master’s degree in music, is constantly in demand, working in bands like the Omi Ajamu Trio and Unsafe Sax, as well as the University of Florida Chamber Orchestra. Drummer/sound engineer Rob Rothschild, often called on to play for touring musicians traveling through the state, has played with Lesley Gore, Billy J. Kramer, and Little Jake and the Soul Searchers. Stellar horn players, guitarists, and others are added when the event calls for it. MoonDancer is in demand for concerts, swing dances, festivals, weddings, corporate and cultural events. Recent performances include the Cummer Museum Jazz Concert Series in Jacksonville, Jazz Up Dunnellon!, UF JazzFest, and concerts for the Gainesville Friends of Jazz. The band has been recorded and broadcast on several radio and television programs, including the national PBS show CD Highway. See MoonDancer in action on YouTube.
Patchwork (link takes you to Patchwork.us) is made up of some of Gainesville’s finest female musicians. All veterans of many bands, Patchwork’s members joined together for the chance to sing and play acoustic music. Personnel consists of Janet Rucker on guitar, banjo, and vocals; Annie McPherson on acoustic bass; Jolene Jones on mandolin and vocals; award-winning multi-instrumentalist Tammy Murray on banjo, guitar, fiddle, and vocals; and Cathy DeWitt on guitar, piano, and vocals.
Our newest band, The Ruckus, has been stirring one up wherever they go! With an eclectic songlist that covers multiple genres and eras, Janet Rucker and daughter Maggie lead the group, voicing that unmatched family blend, down a long and winding road that takes you from the Beatles to Shakey Graves, from Taylor Swift to Lake Street Dive, from Jason Mraz to Crosby, Stills, and Nash. With the added talents of Jake Newcomb on bass, Rob Rothschild on drums, and Cathy DeWitt on keys, this group truly does offer something for everyone.
Trio Fantastique features three stars of the Gainesville music scene in a new and unique musical offering. This trio combines the flavors of new age, classical, folk and jazz into a tasty mixture of creative concert cuisine. Featuring the gifted French flutist Christine Alicot with Mark Billman on cello and Cathy DeWitt on piano, this group is the perfect choice if you’re looking for a sound that offers both elegance and magic. Often added to the trio are Mark Staples on guitar and Aaron Colverson on violin.
